Here’s What we Know About JAY-Z’s ‘4:44’

For the first time since 2013, Jay Z is releasing new music and Tidal alongside Sprint have the exclusive. With the new music also comes the return of the hyphen and a new look for Jay’s name. When he dropped Magna Carta Holy Grail, the hyphen was dropped, making him Jay Z. Now, a Roc Nation rep confirmed to Pitchfork that the hyphen is back. Not just that, but his name is also being formatted in all caps. So, from here on out, it’s JAY-Z.

Before the official announcement, some mysterious ‘4:44’ billboards and advertisements began popping up with no explanation. It’s been announced that ‘4:44’ is a Tidal-only exclusive film as well as an album title, and fans are excited about Hov’s return to music.

While we’ll have to wait until June 30th to learn more, fans did get to preview his track ‘Adnis’ with a 30-second teaser and video starring Mahershala Ali.

Letter to my dad that I never wrote
Speeches I prepared that I never spoke
Words on a paper that I never read
Proses never penned – they stayed in my head

Lupita Nyong’o and Danny Glover are also slated to be involved with the Tidal-only film and we’re very interested in finding out what roles they’ll play in narrating the stories JAY-Z is telling with this new album.

Again, 4:44 will drop on Tidal and via Sprint fans will get a ‘series of exclusives’ leading up to the June 30th release.
