Amazon Saves ‘The Expanse’ From Cancellation

These days when a show, typically a fan-favorite, gets canceled, it doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the line. Now more than ever other networks and streaming services are listening to the fans and occasionally saving shows from cancellation. This most recently happened with Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which was canceled by FOX then almost immediately saved by NBC.

Now, SyFy’s The Expanse, which was just recently canceled amongst an outpouring of fan outrage, will be getting a second home. Amazon Studios has decided to save the series for its fourth season with the official announcement coming from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at the International Space Development Conference. To say that the fans were excited would be a serious understatement.

Co-Founders and Co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson from The Expanse’s production company Alcon Entertainment also issued a statement sharing their excitement:

“We couldn’t be more excited that The Expanse is going to continue on Amazon Prime! We are deeply grateful that Jeff Bezos, Jen Salke, and their team at Amazon have shown such faith in our show.”

The Expanse follows a police detective in the asteroid belt, the first officer of an interplanetary ice freighter and an earth-bound United Nations executive as they slowly discover a vast conspiracy that threatens the Earth’s rebellious colony on the asteroid belt. The show has deeply resonated with fans and critics alike and it was fascinating to watch the rally together after SyFy’s decision to cancel the series – and clearly their voices were heard.
