Jake Gyllenhaal Confirms ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Role in First Instagram Post

After nearly six months of speculation, Jake Gyllenhaal has finally confirmed that he will be playing the big bad in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home movie. Even better? He joined Instagram just for the occasion. In his first post, he’s seen reading the 1989 issue of The Amazing Spider-Man #311. The issue features “The Return of the Man Called Mysterio” which is the character he will be playing in the highly anticipated sequel.

Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Mysterio (aka. Quentin Beck) was first introduced into the Spider-Man comics in 1964. While he does not have any actual superhero capabilities, he uses his talents as a special effects expert to create illusions as diversions in order to commit crimes. While a lot has been kept under wraps about the highly anticipated sequel, we do know Peter will be embarking on a globe-trotting adventure with his friends! Marco Polo alum Remy Hill,  J.B. Smoove, and Numan Acar have all joined the cast in mystery roles. Recurring Marvel players Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) will also be appearing in the film despite both falling victim to Thanos’ snap in the Infinity War post-credit scene.
