Joshua Jackson Joins Netflix’s ‘Central Park Five’ Series

The cast for Ava DuVernay’s Central Park Five continues to grow. The Affair star Joshua Jackson has officially signed on to appear in the upcoming four-episode scripted series with Bull’s Christopher Jackson and 12 Years A Slave’s Adepero Oduye also being announced.

Central Park Five follows the 1989 court case of five Harlem teenagers named Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Antron McCray, Korey Wise and Raymond Santana who were accused of raping a female jogger in Central Park. Spanning from 1989 to 2004, the miniseries will dive into the case from the first time the teens were questioned to a settlement. The prosecution was led by Manhattan assistant district attorney Elizabeth Lederer, who Bates Motel star Vera Farmiga will be playing.

Joshua Jackson will be playing McCray’s lawyer, Joseph. Christopher Jackson will play Santana’s attorney Peter Rivera and Oduye is taking on the role of a Harlem activist named Nomsa Brath. They also join The Wire’s Michael K. Williams who is set to play Antron’s father, Bobby McCray and Bloodline’s John Leguizamo who will play Raymond Santana Sr., Raymond’s dad.

DuVernay, who has directed films such as Selma13th and A Wrinkle in Time will write and direct the series that is expected to hit Netflix in 2019. Oprah Winfrey/Harpo Films, Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh from Tribeca Productions and DuVernay will executive produce the series.

Joshua Jackson has consistently been on television starting with The WB/CW’s Dawson’s Creek, which ran for 128 episodes from 1998 to 2003. He graduated from Dawson’s to star on Fox’s crime drama Fringe, where he played Peter Bishop alongside Anna Torv and John Noble for a solid 100 episodes. Since then he’s been starring on Showtime’s The Affair, which just wrapped up its fourth season with a final fifth season coming up next year.
