First Glimpse of ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Revealed in HBO Sizzle Reel

It’s not much, but Game of Thrones fans will have to take it for now!

Ahead of the Sharp Objects finale on Sunday, HBO dropped a hot sizzle reel teasing some of their most popular shows returning in 2019. Taking front and center within the clips of upcoming HBO shows was none other than Game of Thrones.

While the reel does mainly use clips from the past season, it also gives us some brief glimpses at what lies ahead in the highly anticipated eighth season of the series, particularly one scene in which we see Jon Snow and Sansa Stark hugging. Other shows included in the reel include Veep which is returning after a hiatus where star Julia Louis-Dreyfus underwent treatments for cancer, Big Little LiesTrue Detective and more.

There has been much discussion surrounding when Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere. Earlier this year, HBO head Casey Bloys said that the series would premiere during the first half of 2019. A new interview with a crew member suggests that the premiere date may be delayed until the second half of the year instead.

Regardless of when it premieres, the final season of Game of Thrones is by far one of the most highly-anticipated television series events ever as fans wait to learn the epic conclusion of the battle for the Iron Throne.

In addition to the eighth and final season, HBO has announced that one of the potential Game of Thrones spinoff series received a pilot order from the network giving fans comfort that, though the original series might be coming to an end, there is still more story to be told once the final chapter of the HBO series airs. It was previously thought that the pilot for the Game of Thrones spinoff prequel series would begin filming this fall, however, Bloys confirmed it’s now expected to begin filming next year.
