Fan Fest Picks: Favorite Arrowverse Moments of 2017
It’s been quite a year for the Arrowvserse. From reunions to betrayals, to romance and weddings, to epic crossovers, 2017 has been full of amazing moments on Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. Fellow Arrowverse expert Jules and I have decided to ring in the new year by collecting our favorite Arrowverse moments of this year.
5. The Batman Reference (Arrow)
Jules: I’m going to let my nerd flag fly for a second. I have always been a huge fan of all DC Comics, Green Arrow and Batman in particular. When Oliver dropped that ‘Bruce Wayne’ name asking if he was still in Gotham, I found myself cheering. Even though the chances of Batman appearing on the show are extremely slim, it was nonetheless exciting to hear that name in the Arrowverse.
The Wonder Woman Reference (Legends of Tomorrow)
Alyssa: Just like in Arrow, we got another massive reference dropped during this season of Legends of Tomorrow when Zari breaks the rules and drops Helen of Troy off at Themiscyra. I knew as soon as Zari told Helen she was taking her to an island of warrior women (and also happened to be completely devoid of men). Then the location title popped up at the bottom of the screen and I screamed at the TV. It was awesome.
4. The Kara/Reign Showdown (Supergirl)
(Jules & Alyssa)
Jules: The mid-season finale of Supergirl this year had to have been the best one I have seen yet. Reign’s arrival alone was extremely exciting, and that epic fight scene between her and Kara was something that truly kept me on the edge of my seat. This episode was completely overwhelming and exciting and I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
Alyssa: I think that Supergirl had the strongest mid-season finale of the four shows and it definitely got me pumped up for what’s to come in 2018. Reign was for more terrifying than I ever imagined and I can’t wait to see the fallout of their fight.
3. The Double Wedding (Legends of Tomorrow)
Jules: Seeing two of my favorite couples finally come together was something that I have been desperately craving for so long and to finally have it happen was truly amazing. The chemistry amongst all of these characters are what make those relationships seem so realistic. Both couples have been faced with extreme challenges, and I am extremely excited to see what these newly established (as Mr. & Mrs.) relationships will do for the show.
The Legends (x2) vs. The Legion (Legends of Tomorrow)
Alyssa: The Legends faced their toughest foes yet in the Season 2 finale, but they weren’t alone. Two sets of Legends set out to take on the Legion. We got a really great action sequence as well as emotional moments as we watched one set of Legends die one by one until only Sara was left. Then, Sara solidified her role as captain by diffusing the Spear, passing up the opportunity to restore Laurel’s life.
2. The Return of Captain Cold (The Flash)
Jules: I found myself cheering at the sight of my favorite hero gone legend returning. Leonard Snart is definitely a character I have missed dearly on the show. Also, his returning moment was absolutely perfect. On Earth-X he saved our favorite heroes, symbolizing that the character wasn’t just a hero… he truly was a legend.
Reunion of Friends and Foes (Arrow)
Alyssa: The end of Season 5 of Arrow found Adrian Chase kidnapping everyone that Oliver cares for and holding them hostage on Lian Yu. Knowing he can’t do it alone, Oliver gets aid from some unlikely companions. He is joined by Malcolm Merlyn, Nyssa al Ghul, and Slade Wilson as they take on Adrian Chase, Talia al Ghul, and Black Siren. It was pretty epic.
1. The Deathstroke Tales (Arrow)
Jules: Deathstroke, or rather Slade Wilson, has always been my favorite DC Villain growing up. As if having him back on the show was not enough, I got to get a taste of his backstory. I loved how they showed what happened to Slade after he was defeated by Oliver on the Amazo, and how he gradually let the mirakuru rage build up and lead him to head out to Starling City. Along with the return of Slade came a brief glimpse of Shado whom we have not seen since Season 2 of the show. Deathstroke’s return was absolutely without a doubt one of the best moments of Arrow and the Arrowverse itself this season.
‘Crisis on Earth-X’ (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow)
The crossover event is always my favorite time of year and I couldn’t imagine this year’s being able to overcome ‘Invasion!’ but it did. ‘Crisis on Earth-X’ was firing on all cylinders, delivering incredible action sequences, great character interactions, comedy, and emotional moments that ripped your heart out. It was everything that we love about the Arrowverse in four hours.
