The ‘Wonder Woman’ Sequel Gets an Earlier Premiere Date

The highly-anticipated Wonder Woman sequel will be hitting theaters earlier than expected in 2019 and, it’s possible that Star Wars might be to blame!

On Monday, Warner Bros. announced that the sequel will fly into theaters six weeks earlier than originally announced.  This means the Wonder Woman sequel’s new release date will be November 1, 2019, instead of its originally planned release date which was December 13, 2019.

Wonder Woman‘s change in release date comes shortly after Disney and Lucasfilm announced the change in their Star Wars: Episode IX release date.  It was announced in September that Star Wars: Episode IX would be hitting theaters on December 20, 2019, after being pushed back from its originally slotted release date of May 24, 2019.  It would seem that the Wonder Woman sequel chose to move to an earlier release date in order to avoid rivaling the new Star Wars film.

We have no doubt that, if the release date wasn’t changed, the Wonder Woman sequel would have still been able to hold its own against the new Star Wars film.  The first installment was a massive summer box office success raking in $400 million domestically and crushing all kinds of records in the process.  Director Patty Jenkins officially signed on to direct the film in September and Gal Gadot is set to reprise her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman will be seen next in Warner Bros. and DC’s Justice League which premieres this weekend on November 17th.  The film also stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as the Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.
