The Team Behind ‘Preacher’ is Bringing Dark Superhero Comic “The Boys” to Amazon

Fans of AMC’s Preacher are in for some good news today as the same team behind the popular comic and its well-received TV adaption are at it again. Amazon just announced that they will be developing an eight-episode drama series based on the comic The Boys, which was written by Preacher author Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson. Much like with AMC’s Preacher, Ennis will be teaming up again with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to adapt the dark superhero comic for television. The series will be co-produced by Sony.

Chris Parnell, Co-President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, said in a statement:

“We are very happy to have the unique opportunity to produce a second series based on the subversive and innovative world of Garth Ennis, and we are thankful to Sharon and her team at Amazon for their vision, partnership, and support.”

Eric Kripke, who created this little show you may have heard of called Supernatural, will be the series showrunner. Ennis and Roberston will executive produce alongside Kripke, Goldberg, Rogen and Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, and Pavun Shetty

The Boys follows a group of CIA operatives, self-dubbed “The Boys”, who are ” tasked with monitoring their world’s extensive superhero community. In this world, superheroes are not wholesome or righteous; instead, they have orgies and do a lot of drugs. The Boys surveil them, blackmail them, and sometimes even kill them, in order to keep them in line.”

The Boys should begin filming in 2018 for a predicted 2019 release.
