Sylvester Stallone to Direct Upcoming ‘Creed’ Sequel Starring Michael B. Jordan

When Marvel announced that Creed director Ryan Coogler would helm the upcoming Black Panther movie, a ton of people were thrilled due to the wonderfully nuanced and emotional work he did in Creed, but at the same time, those Creed fans wondered what this would mean for the film’s sequel. Well, it appears that Creed 2 is being handed off to some very good (and familiar) hands. Rocky himself Sylvester Stallone announced on Instagram that in addition to producing the upcoming sequel, which will once again star Michael B. Jordan,  he will also be taking a seat in the Director’s chair.

Since the film is still in development there aren’t too many details yet aside from a 2018 release date and Jordan returning as Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed, and Stallone reprising his legendary role of Rocky Balboa. Hopefully, it will be met with the same success as the first film did, which brought in around $173 million globally and got Stallone a Golden Globe win and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

2015’s Creed  followed the former World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa as he trains and mentors Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo Creed.
