‘Young Sheldon’ Renewed for a Second Season

Everyone’s favorite little genius is coming back for a second season.

The comedy spinoff to The Big Bang Theory focuses on a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper(Iain Armitage) as he takes on high school.

Young Sheldon has made a huge impact on our schedule in the short time it’s been on the air,” said CBS President Kelly Kahl in a statement.

Young Sheldon also stars Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Raegan Revord, Montana Jordan, as well as the voice of Jim Parsons. The comedy has earned the No. 1 spot in the new comedy category and ranks as the No.2 comedy on TV, right behind The Big Bang Theory.

“While the show’s DNA is clearly rooted in The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon has staked out its own place in the TV universe with a unique creative tone, brilliant writing, and a gifted multi-generational cast. We can’t wait to see Chuck, Steve, Jim and Todd’s vision for how the Cooper family deals with Sheldon growing a year older…and smarter,” says Kahl.

The first season of  Young Sheldon is currently airing on CBS Thursday nights at 8:30 right after season 11 of  The Big Bang Theory.
