‘Young Rock’ Cancelled by NBC after 3 Seasons, Dealing Another Blow to Dwayne Johnson

NBC has decided to cancel the popular series Young Rock after its third season, as reported by Variety. The show, which chronicled Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s life from childhood to his professional wrestling career, failed to maintain the viewership it had garnered in previous seasons.

Young Rock Season 3, although received well by fans, saw a decline in viewership compared to its predecessors. It averaged around 1.4 million viewers per episode, while Season 2 had an average of 2.23 million viewers and Season 1 boasted an impressive 3 million viewers weekly.

Although Young Rock focused on Johnson’s life rather than the man himself, the wrestler turned actor made several appearances on the show. It provided wrestling fans a glimpse into Rock’s early career, serving as the closest thing to a wrestling comeback for him in recent years. Johnson has not appeared on a WWE broadcast since October 2019.

Many fans expressed their desire to see The Rock return to the ring for one last match against Roman Reigns, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, to determine the true head of the Anoa’i family. Rock has hinted at the possibility on a few occasions, but only when directly asked about it. In Young Rock, a young Reigns (Joe Anoa’i) was even shown attempting to put Rock in a headlock, with Rock suggesting that a match between them could only take place at WrestleMania.

Currently, Dwayne Johnson is heavily focused on his movie career. He recently completed filming for Red One and is preparing to portray a live-action version of Maui in a reimagining of the film Moana. Additionally, he has rejoined the Fast and Furious franchise and is set to reprise his role as Luke Hobbs in an upcoming film.

Fans can still enjoy the entirety of Young Rock, as the full series is available for streaming on Peacock.
