Writer/Director M. Night Shyamalan Teases Possible ‘Split’ Sequel

First things first…  Back in the day, when The Sixth Sense first came out in theaters, a friend ruined the twist ending for me.  That was in 1999 and, to this day, I still haven’t forgiven her.  With that said, I promise you, this article will be spoiler-free.

However, I will tell you that, if you are a fan of M. Night Shyamalan’s work and you have not yet seen his latest film Split, you are severely missing out.  James McAvoy’s performance in this film is truly captivating and Shyamalan’s storytelling is nothing short of phenomenal.

The film tells the story of a man struggling with Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D. for short or what’s previously known as multiple personality disorder).  He’s struggling with 23 identities to be exact when, one day, one of his identities is compelled to abduct three girls.  The girls must escape his captivity before his newly-developing, evil 24th identity fully emerges.

In true Shyamalanian fashion, there is a twist ending which, for the audience, raises more questions than it gives answer and resolution for the film.  I saw the film today (literally about 2 hours ago at the time of writing this article) and, upon leaving the theater and discussing the film with friends, the question was raised, “Will M. Night Shyamalan make a sequel to help answer all the unresolved questions?”

Turns out, Shyamalan and I may just be on the same page.  Saturday afternoon, he tweeted out a not-so-cryptic teaser that something resembling Split 2 may be on the way soon.  The tweet reads, “I have an 11 page outline for my next film in my bag.  I can’t tell you what it is, but if you’ve seen #Split…”

Yes, indeed if you’ve seen Split, you want this follow up film to actually be happening and you want it to happen now! Side note: If this actually happens, I think a perfect title for the new film would be Et cetera.

If you haven’t seen the film and you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, I highly recommend you head out to the theaters and see for yourself. Split is playing in theaters nationwide.

Also, make sure check out our EXCLUSIVE interviews with film stars James McAvoy, Betty Buckley, and Haley Lu Richardson and, the main man himself, M. Night Shyamalan.

We would LOVE to hear from you!  Have you seen Split?  If so, what did you think of the film?  What do you think of a possible sequel being in the works?  Sound off in the comment section below!
