Who Is Harley Quinn?

Everybody always thinks that there are too many Harley Quinns on a convention. They don’t get the craze about girls, and even the guys, love this character. That’s why it’s important to know a little bit of Harley’s history. In my own experience, when I tell why I cosplay Harley, they are surprised I know about how she became so popular and what she has done in the comics. Yes, I leave grown men speechless when they see they can’t fool me on this character.

Now, who is Harley Quinn?

Who Is Harley Quinn?

She had a rocky start as she accidentally became famous. Yes, you read that right, she was never meant to become this famous! She was expected to appear in the animated series once in 1992 in the episode ‘Joker’s Favor.’ Here she was the female sidekick/love-sick puppy to Jokers side. The success the character had, made her come back again and again and again until she got her own comic book in 1994, where her origin story is explained in the comic book called ‘The Batman Adventures: Mad Love.’ The next part is the one thing that everyone seems to know. Harley Quinn went by the name Dr. Harleen Francis Quinzel; she was a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum before she fell in love with the Joker when Harley thought she was curing him.

I figured out recently that the love Harley has is given back by the Joker way before Harleen became Harley. Yes, in some comics the Joker fell in love with Harleen Quinzel. They met before Harleen was a doctor and before the Joker became the madman after losing himself to one bad day.

Take one guess who funded Harleen’s college? If you thought the Joker, you were correct! This way Harley could help him with his depression. There is a moment where Harley is broken out of jail by the Clown Prince of Crime so that they could get married. Of course, Batman was the one to stop it in time.

Furthermore, Harley and the Joker have a daughter. The Joker always denied this though, even when he’s put away he keeps denying having a daughter, or the fact that Harley left him for a little over nine months, just so that she could give birth to Lucy. The Joker was the father to walk away to keep his child away from the public eye, and from his enemies. The Joker never expected Harley to come back to him, that’s why, in the comics, he acts like Harley Quinn never left his side.

Now that you know Harley Quinn a little more, are there things you didn’t expect in her story? Discuss it with us in the comments below. There is still so much more to write about this character, but it’s always good to start with a base.
