What Your ‘One Tree Hill’ OTP Says About You

So, we’ve been on a bit of a One Tree Hill kick lately, and if you’ve ever watched the series, you know that the relationships are what make the series. There are love triangles, couples meant to be from different ‘social circles’, fathers who were never fathers and family members who stepped up in their places. There are friendships that last forever and romances that ignite overnight and it all reflects on the small town high school and that basketball team rivalry that started it all.
Personally, we are massive ‘Team Leyton’ fans. So when Lucas and Peyton drove off into eternal happiness together, we missed their characters but were happy that they finally got their happy ending. We also love Brulian and Naley. Each couple brings something different to the series and it’s hard to just pick one. So instead of trying to make that impossible decision, we looked at the series and those legendary relationships and we evaluated what each one of them brought to the show.
If you’re ‘Team Brucas’ you believe that you could be ‘the one’ that changes ‘the one’.
Brooke and Lucas weren’t meant to be, but boy…did they both want to be the one for each other – just never at the same or the right time. Brooke wanted to be the one to change Lucas’ heart and Lucas wanted to be the right guy for Brooke. No matter how terribly you want something, sometimes, things aren’t meant to be – while Brooke and Lucas had some sweet moments together, their best ones came later in life when their friendship was the focus and they truly cared about one another and their best lives.
Plus, seeing the two of them be supportive of one another as they grew into the people they were meant to be was part of one of the best bonds on the series.
If you’re ‘Team Leyton’ you believe that love is born in like minds and hearts and that it lasts.
Like we said, we’re totally ‘Team Leyton’ here and their love story sort of gave us hope for our own. Peyton and Lucas met and they were drawn to one another and as time went on, even when they weren’t together, their relationship grew. There was a bigger power that kept them together. He wrote about it in his book, Peyton was Lucas’ book…
‘It was a comet. The boy saw the comet and he felt as though his life had meaning. And when it went away, he waited his entire life for it to come back to him. It was more than just a comet because of what it brought to his life: direction, beauty, meaning. There are many who couldn’t understand, and sometimes he walked among them. But even in his darkest hours, he knew in his heart that someday it would return to him, and his world would be whole again… And his belief in God and love and art would be re-awakened in his heart. The boy saw the comet and suddenly his life had meaning.’
The two getting their happy ending is what made One Tree Hill what it was, and after every single thing they went through together, from the love triangle that started it all to Lucas wondering if Peyton would survive the birth of their child – it seemed as if their love was meant to overcome obstacles. They were destined to be together.
If you’re ‘Team Brulian’ you believe that love doesn’t have to begin early to be real.
Brooke may not have found her happy ending in Lucas, but she found her happy ending in Julian and their story was beautiful. Julian was a little rough around the edges but Brooke didn’t change him, he wanted to be better for her, so he made changes on his own because he knew what she deserved. In that same breath, he knew what he deserved too. Brooke had experienced some of the darkest times of her life, seemingly on her own, and she was strong because of it. Julian didn’t save Brooke, but he brought her to joys and to love and to a sense of being that she didn’t have before him.
Their happy ending was one of the most real in the series because it’s something we’ve all experienced. You’ve got to get through the pain to find happiness and you’ve got to love yourself before you can love someone else, or at least be willing to try.
If you’re ‘Team Naley’ you believe in high school sweethearts who beat the odds.
Nathan and Haley had the relationship we all wanted to have, ya know…high school sweethearts who make it happen. Their lives were anything but perfect, however, their love story was one for the ages. After making it through the highs and lows of high school, their dream career paths, and all of the heartache that was thrown their way – they were stronger because of it. Their start may have been a false one, but their happy ending was absolutely real.
Plus, out of all of the relationship highs and lows in the series as a whole, they dealt with some of the darkest and managed to find a way to live a life together that was good.
If you’re ‘Team Quinn and Clay because we aren’t sure that their ship name is actually a ship name’ you believe in second chances, and that there may be more than one great love in someone’s life.
Quinn helped Clay believe in love again and it took a lot to get there. If they were your OTP you’ve probably been in a situation that hurts a lot more than you’d like to talk about. It’s not easy to relate to a couple like Quinn and Clay, but their love was strong and pure. Clay lost his first love to a brain aneurysm one afternoon – she just walked to get a glass of kool aid and died…from then on, his life was turned upside down. Quinn helped him find his way up again.
She loved him through the parts of himself that he couldn’t even understand, through the parts that were created from an experience so painful he had to try to block it out of his own mind. Clay and Quinn had a patient love, a compassionate love, and a love that made trying again something beautiful.
Did we mention your favorite One Tree Hill ship? If not, what couple were you rooting for? Let us know.
