‘Werewolf By Night’ First Reactions Surface: It’s Terrifying

The social embargo for Marvel’s Werewolf by Night has lifted just over a week before the release date, with members of the media and other early access influencers now able to share their thoughts on the studio’s first-ever Halloween special. The earliest reactions praise the special black-and-white color scheme that makes it largely stand apart from the rest of live action in Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Michael Giacchino, a composer making his Marvel directorial debut on the project, is receiving much applause for Gael Garcia Bernal and Laura Donnelly’s performances as Jack Russell and Elsa Bloodstone. The visual effects work for Man-Thing is also being highly acclaimed.

Best Thing They’ve Done

Spooky and Striking

The MCU delivered a classic Hollywood monster movie with #WerewolfByNight that will have you on the edge of your seat. Gael Garcia Bernal does an excellent job at portraying the internal battle between man and beast. I can’t help but want to see more of Jack Russell, and composer Michael Giacchino just keeps impressing me with his work.

Aggressively Self-Contained

I hope we see more projects in the future of the MCU that are like Werewolf By Night. It has a very straightforward story, but is also stylish and unique compared to other franchises. A cool Halloween present, for sure!

Deliciously Twisted

WerewolfByNight is wonderfully twisted and a great homage to classic Monster movies. The outstanding work of m_giacchino was amazing!

Breath of Fresh Air

#WerewolfByNight is one of the most eccentric MCU projects since GOTG. It’s not as good, but it’s gratifying to see Marvel try something original like this with its trailer having a similar tone and style.
