WATCH: First Trailer for Steven Yeun’s Netflix Film ‘Okja’

On Thursday, Netflix released its trailer for the star-studded original film Okja from South Korean Snowpiercer director Boon Joon-Ho.  The trailer debuted just prior to the Cannes Film Festival competition where the film premiered amidst controversy surrounding the Netflix as a film viewing platform.

Putting the controversy aside, the trailer for the Netflix production gives us mixed feelings.  Okja is a genetically enhanced “super pig” befriends a little girl named Mija.  Okja is adorable and immediately lovable but, he’s also in trouble!  These super pigs have been bred to revolutionize the live-stock industry.  In laymen’s terms, they are going to eat him!!

Okja is kidnapped and taken to New York with the intention of starting a breeding business for the super pigs for profit and mass distribution.  Mija sets out to save her new friend and ensure his safety and the safety of others who may be in the same situation.

You have to admit, the premise is pretty unique and, seriously, one look at that big, sweet Okja and we are falling hook, line and sinker for this film.

To top off the intriguing trailer and storyline premise, is a stellar, international cast including, Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Jake Gyllenhaal, Lily Collins, Byn Hee-bong, Steven Yeun, and Shirley Henderson.

We, of course, love seeing Steven Yeun back in action, even if his part in the trailer is brief.  We are really looking forward to his performance in this film.

Okja will be available for streaming on Netflix on June 28th.

What do you think of the trailer?  Do you love Okja as much as we do?
