WATCH: ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Trailer Re-cut as an 80s Movie

About a month ago, the very first trailer for Blade Runner 2049 exploded onto the scene with an action-packed first look at the upcoming Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford film.  The trailer is pretty epic and pulls out all the stops when it comes to modern day film making and special effects.  The entire 2 minutes and 22 seconds is memorizing thanks to the incredible cinematography work from Roger Deakins (Skyfall, No Country For Old Men).

But, what if this incredible visual journey went retro, back to the old school look of the original 1982 Ridley Scott film?  Thanks to the folks over at ScreenCrush and YouTube user The Sleepy Skunk, we have the below awesome re-imagining of the trailer.

The retro style version is re-cut to include everything we loved (or learned to love) about 80’s cinema.  The trailer has a grainy and distorted look and feel which is accompanied by a synthesizer sounding musical interlude.  The video is shown in a smaller aspect ratio with total throwback sound effects and even includes old school commercial ads.  The coolest thing about this re-cut has got to be the snippets of original footage from the original 1982 film.  So awesome!  Check out the retro re-cut below:

Regarding the new film, Blade Runner 2049, the official log-line from the trailer states:

“Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.”

In addition to Gosling and Ford, the film also co-stars Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Ana De Armas, MacKenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, Lennie James and Carla Juri.  Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) is on board to direct.  Check out the explosive first trailer right HERE.

Blade Runner 2049 will hit theaters on October 6, 2017.  Are you excited?  What do you think of the retro re-cut trailer?  Sound off in the comment section below!
