Watch as ‘The Walking Dead’s’ Norman Reedus Appears on ‘Jimmy Fallon’ and Responds to Spinoff Changes
First, it was Jeffrey Dean Morgan and then AMC pushed back against vicious fans who have been blaming Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride for the cancellation of The Walking Dead spinoff series. Finally, Norman Reedus publicly discussed the reasons for the changes and why Melissa McBride is no longer participating.
Last night, Norman Reedus appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where he addressed the changes for his upcoming spinoff series. The series will now focus on just his character and will still be based in Europe. However, when talking about the series, he said that McBride will no longer be participating because she’s tired after eleven seasons and twelve years of filming. Watch the clip below:
According to AMC Networks, they said that McBride will no longer be involved in the project since it will now film in Europe and take place there.
“Melissa McBride has given life to one of the most interesting, real, human, and popular characters in ‘The Walking Dead’ Universe. Unfortunately, she is no longer able to participate in the previously announced spin-off focused on the Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier characters, which will be set and filmed in Europe this summer and premiere next year,” an AMC Networks rep said in a statement. “Relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa at this time. We know fans will be disappointed by this news, but ‘The Walking Dead’ Universe continues to grow and expand in interesting ways and we very much hope to see Carol again in the near future.”
Now, both the cable network and long-running show are fighting back against the whispers, innuendos, and outright hatred that’s been polluting social media this week.

Melissa McBride decided she could not participate in the series because relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for her. It is inappropriate to direct negativity and anger at another cast member for a disappointing outcome he had nothing to do with.
Carol is a beloved & vital character and we are working to find a way for fans to again follow her story, as only Melissa could give life to, in the expanding universe around The Walking Dead. The fans have always been the driving force behind TWD Family and always will be.
While it’s still a few months until the finale chapters are released (and we get some clarity on the spinoff confusion), it wasn’t too early to get a sneak peek at what’s to come in Season 11 Part 3.
