WATCH: Andy Serkis Morphs into Caeser in a New Featurette from ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’

We’ve already seen some awesome behind the scenes footage from War for the Planet of the Apes showing a detailed look of acclaimed motion capture actor Andy Serkis and how technology factors into his transformation into the role of Caesar.  However, before the state of the art technology takes over, first, Serkis must actually deliver the performance and the lines which Caesar is going to say.  After Serkis performs the entire scene as himself, Weta Digital to takes over and digitally transforms him into the ape character.  Thanks to 20th Century Fox, we can actually see that process happening!  Weta Digital has mastered the art of translating human actors to apes and the below featurette shows that change as it happens right before your very eyes.  In the new featurette below titled

In the new featurette below titled Faces of Caesar, Serkis delivers a monolog from the film.  You can see him dressed in the gray body suit and head gear.  He is covered from head to toe in point markings which help Weta Digital create facial expressions and lifelike movement when they translate his performance into Caesar’s.  As Serkis speaks, he slowly morphs into Caesar and it’s pretty amazing to see.  Also, as a side note, how amazing is Serkis as he’s delivering the lines?  He’s truly an under appreciated actor, simply because when he’s on screen, he’s usually masked behind a CGI version of himself.

It’s absolutely captivating to watch the transformation take place.  Check out the brief featurette below:

The film will be swinging into theaters on July 14, 2017.
