Warner Bros. Will not Continue With Henry Cavill’s Superman Films
The rumors that swirled a few weeks back are true, and there will be no Man of Steel sequel after all.
Variety reported that Warner Bros will not move forward with Batman and Superman movies featuring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill.
This news came in a report that the standalone Flash film will begin production in 2019 because of Ezra Miller’s current role in Fantastic Beasts: Crimes Of Grindelwald.
Henry Cavill recently signed on to play Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher series, and negotiations for his appearance in Shazam! never came to fruition, which spurred even more rumors of his Superman exit.
Cavill has portrayed Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, 2016’s Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and 2017’s Justice League.
The report also revealed that Warner Bros is looking for a new Batman, but no search for a new Superman has started. It would be possible for him to stay with the role in a lesser fashion.
According to a source for THR, the inner workings of DC and Warner Brothers know that something about the first few DC films wasn’t gelling.
WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey also said the following during a call with investors, “Some of our franchises, in particular DC, we all think we can do better.”
The change comes the right time because there are several DC properties in the pipeline, and highly anticipated Jason Momoa’s Aquaman will hit theaters December 14th.
