During the MTV Movie & TV Awards on May 7th, a lot of television shows and films were recognized for their lasting impression on audiences around the world. One film series that transcends is the Fast & Furious franchise.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards showcased this last night as they presented Fast & Furious with the Generation Award. On Wikipedia, the Generation Award is described as such.

The MTV Generation Award is the successor to the MTV Lifetime Achievement Award, though it is more serious than its predecessor. The recipient of the award is celebrated for great achievement in movies. The distinction “is given to an artist who has shown us a variety of impressive roles, a personal and professional flair and of course, an awesome level of talent.

Vin Diesel is part of the foundation of Fast & Furious foundation, and he took the stage first before inviting his family up alongside him to accept the award for all that they’ve done together. The films have made a lasting impression on the entertainment industry and they continue to do so, even years after the premiere of the first one in 2001.

You know in 2002, I was standing on this stage, and MTV had given Paul Walker and I an award for best duo, and now, 15 years later, I’m with my whole family, and you’re giving us the Generation Award. I have to thank Universal, I have to thank all the directors, Chris Morgan, Neal Moritz. But most importantly, I gotta thank our generation. I gotta thank a generation that was willing to accept this multicultural franchise where it didn’t matter what color your skin was or what country you’re from — when you’re family, you’re family.

I can never stand on this stage and talk about Fast & Furious without giving love to our brother Pablo,” he said, raising the golden popcorn trophy to the sky. “We hope you’re proud.

The loss of Paul Walker was felt across the entertainment industry, none more so than the family he made through the Fast & Furious films. With each award accepted for the franchise and public appearances supporting film premieres and award shows, the cast and crew pay their respects to Paul. Vin Diesel doing so last night with such a big award was a special moment for their family and fans around the world.
