USA Picks Up New Anthology Drama/Thriller ‘The Sinner’ To Series

From 7th Heaven to The Sinner. USA Network announced at Tuesday’s Television Critics Association press tour that they have picked up their first series of 2017 – an anthology drama titled The Sinner starring Jessica Biel in her first major TV role since Heaven. She will also serve as an executive producer.

The series is based off of Petra Hammesfahr’s book of the same title and follows a young mother (Biel) who is suddenly overcome with an inexplicable fit of rage and commits a shocking act of violence. The only thing is that she has no idea why.

This event garners the attention of an investigator played by Bill Pullman (Independence Day) who becomes obsessed with the incident and the mysterious motive behind it. Together they will embark on a chilling journey  into the depths of her psyche and the long hidden secrets of her past.

“We are pleased to announce The Sinner as our first series pickup of 2017. The series’ unique perspective intrigued us from the very beginning, and Universal Cable Productions, Jessica Biel, and the entire team behind and in front of the cameras have delivered something very special.” – President of USA Network, Chris McCumber

“My partner, Michelle Purple, and I are so honored and excited to be producing powerful, raw material like The Sinner. We strive to tell humanistic and emotionally moving stories; especially ones that put women at the epicenter. I have been lucky, as both actor and producer, to work with our immensely talented writer/creator Derek Simonds and can’t wait to see what the collaboration brings throughout the series. Mostly, I’m thrilled to introduce the world of The Sinner to audiences with the tremendous support of our bold partners, Universal Cable Productions and USA.” -Jessica Biel on the announcement

The pilot was written by executive producer Derek Simonds (When We Rise) and Charlie Gogolak (This Is Us) serves as executive producer, as well as Antonio Campos (Christine), who also will direct the pilot.
