Universal’s Dark Universe Adds 2 New Monsters

If you’ve been paying attention, you know that The Mummy is hitting theaters this weekend and it’s the first film kickoff for Universal’s Dark Universe

The Bride of Frankenstein will be the next installment in Universal’s Dark Universe and no one has that lead role yet, but rumors are spinning on who could be cast. Alex Kurtzman is staying tightlipped about projects as far as who would play which roles and what the storylines would be specifically, but we do now know that these films are ones we should be on the lookout for.

Kurtzman said this about the films that will ‘for sure’ be happening.
‘We know we’re going to do Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantom of the Opera, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Invisible Man.’

So far, we know that Javier Bardem and Johnny Depp will be cast as Frankenstein and The Invisible Man. Russell Crowe will be playing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in The Mummy. Rumor has it that Dwayne Johnson is being asked to play Wolfman while Angeline Jolie is being asked to play the Bride of Frankenstein. Also, while there is no one being cast as the Creature from the Black Lagoon yet, there is a writer for the film already; Will Beall.

Kurtzman also said that there are characters in the films he spoke on above that could be spun off or elaborated upon more. Which means those original stories could be modified, told in different points of view, and after that, we could get entirely new films based on some old favorite characters.

There are characters within those films that can grow and expand and maybe even spin off. I think that digging into deep mythologies about monsters around the world is fair game for us, as well and connecting the monsters that we know to some surprising monsters could also be really interesting.

What films do you hope to see in Universal’s Dark Universe? Are there any actors you’d like to see cast in the roles? Let us know.
