Tom Petty has died at the age of 66.
The singer, most known for being a key member of the band Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, was rushed to hospital by paramedics after going into cardiac arrest. He was later placed on life support.
A statement from Tony Dimitriade (Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers manager) was later published on Petty’s social media accounts on the behalf of his loved ones, confirming earlier reports that he has sadly passed away.

On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40pm PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends. – Tony Dimitriades, longtime manager of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on behalf of the family.
The musical icon was an inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside his close friend and ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’ collaborator, Stevie Nicks.
The Heartbreakers took the music scene by storm in the late 70s, with hits under their name that include: ‘American Girl’ and ‘I Won’t Back Down.’
