A jewelry store in Tokyo, Japan is selling life-sized, Darth Vader masks made of pure 24-karat gold to all fans with a lot of spending change.  The masks measure 26.5 centimeters (10.4 inches) wide and 30 centimeters (11.8 inches) tall.  While that’s big enough to wear around your gold plated house, the masks weigh a whopping 15 kilograms (33 pounds) plus, there’s no opening for a head so, it’s virtually impossible to use for role or cosplaying.  That would have been cool though.

Marketing manager Hirotsugu Tsuchiya said it took 10 goldsmiths three months to mold and assemble the prototype. Tsuchiya said:

“The most difficult aspect was that each section of the mask was created by a different gold craftsman and then assembled to make one Darth Vader mask.”

If you want to purchase one of these golden collectibles, you can do so in Tokyo at the Ginza shopping area where the prototype is on display.  There’s a three month wait for the collectible after your order is placed so, you better start booking your flights now!

For those looking for some more affordable golden collectibles, coins engraved with Yoda or Luke Skywalker will also be available starting at 132,300 yen ($1,200). They will go on sale Thursday, May the 4th (aka. Star Wars Day).

What do you think about this collectible? Would you pay that price to own the gold Darth Vader mask?  Sound off in the comment section below!
