Throwback Thursday: The Boy Bands Edition

Happy Throwback Thursday, Folks!  This weekend, two of our favorite Boy Band members will be celebrating birthdays.  Joey Fatone and Nick Carter were both born on January 28th.  Justin Timberlake will be celebrating his birthday on January 31st.  So, in honor of these awesome guys, let’s throw it back to the 90’s and take a look at some of our favorite Boy Bands throughout the years.

New Kids on the Block:

If we’re being honest, Jordan Knight was probably my very first crush, ever.  New Kids on the Block started out in the 80’s, carried over into the 90’s and kind of never went away. They are still out touring and performing to sold out crowds around the world and have even released new music.  We will never forget their classics such as Step By Step, and Hangin’ Tough.

Boyz II Men:

Where do we even begin?  Motown Philly, One Sweet Day, End of the Road and I’ll Make Love to You; So many hits!  This group’s soulful sound still makes us melt.  With an astounding 60 million albums sold and holding the title of best-selling R&B group of all time, fans agree that they truly are one of the greatest Boy Bands of the 90’s.

N*Sync:

It’s Tearing Up My Heart that this group isn’t together anymore but, long before they said Bye Bye Bye, they battled for Boy Band dominance during the late 90’s, early 2000’s.  Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez originally met on the Mickey Mouse Club but it was Chris Kirkpatrick who first called Timberlake with the idea of putting together a group.  After some phone calls and networking, Joey Fatone and Lance Bass were also brought on board and, N*Sync was born!  Side note, any N*Sync song will make you an instant karaoke super star!

Backstreet Boys:

In 1993, Cousins Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson auditioned for an up and coming vocal group.  Littrell actually auditions over the phone.  Can you believe that?  The next day, Backstreet Boys officially became a group. Nick Carter, AJ McLean and Howie D round out the other members and the group still tours today.  Just last year, some of the guys teamed up with Jeff Timmons from 98 Degrees and dove into the world of Science Fiction television with their show Dead 7 on SyFy.

98 Degrees:

As a huge Nick Lacey fan, 98 Degrees holds a very special place in my heart.  Unlike many of the others listed here, the group formed independently before later on being signed by a major label.  They broke out onto the scene in 1998 (isn’t that just perfect timing?) and kicked off a reunion tour back in 2012.  Not to mention, their hit song I Do is one of the most popular wedding songs out there.

Just thinking about these groups makes us want to get up, dance and sing at the top of our lungs.  Ahhh nostalgia!  For a further trip down memory lane, check out our Boy Band Jams playlist on Spotify, linked below, and please join us in wishing a very happy almost birthday to Joey, Justin and Nick!
