Throwback Thursday: Star Wars (1977)

Happy Throwback Thursday, everyone! May the Fourth be with you on this very special Thursday in May. You may be wondering…. Why do people keep saying it like ‘May the Fourth Be With You?’; well, that is because today is National ‘Star Wars’ Day, my friends! The figure of speech comes as a fun twist to the popular Star Wars line ‘May the force be with you’.

Star Wars, which was actually later retitled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope is an epic space film. It was both written and directed by George Lucas, and was the first installment in the Star Wars film series. It was released in theaters in the United States on May 25, 1977. The film earned a box officer record of over $700 million. This impressive record caused it to surpass the Stephen Speilberg acclaimed thriller Jaws, become the highest-grossing film of all time.

The Star Wars cast was made up of various actors including: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, and James Earl Jones.
