‘Throwback Thursday’: Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone Book Release

Happy ‘Throwback Thursday’ on this National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day!! You know what I really enjoy with my chocolate chip cookies? I glass of cold milk and a good book. Now that J.K Rowling has released her newest novel in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it brought back memories of when the very first book came out!

The book was actually originally titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first published by Bloomsbury in 1997, but when it was published in the United States in 1998, the book was titled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

The plot follows a young wizard named Harry Potter who discovers that he actually possesses his magical abilities. He goes on to attend a school specialized for Witchcraft and Wizardry, Hogwarts. His world went from a world of closets, scraps of food and cobwebs to a world of flying, potions and adventures. He winds up making close friends and a few enemies. With the help of his friends, Harry faces off the evil wizard Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry’s parents, but failed to kill Harry when he was a baby.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone won multiple British book awards  and several other awards in the US. The book reached the top of the New York Times list of best-selling fiction in August 1999. It has been translated into at least sixty-seven other languages and each novel has been turned into a motion picture film.
