‘Throwback Thursday’: Galaxy Quest

Time for another ‘Throwback Thursday’!! You know what that means? First, the weekend is almost here! Second, it’s time to let that retro-nerd flag fly!
Galaxy Quest is a 1999 science fiction comedy film produced by DreamWorks. This Star Trek parody film contained a pretty great A-list cast, consisting of Tim Allen, Sigourey Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell and Daryl Mitchell.
The stars of a 1970s sci-fi adventure show titled ‘Galaxy Quest’ are now getting through life by attending sci-fi conventions and through show re-runs, following the cancellation of their show. One day, the shows actors are beamed aboard an alien spacecraft. Believing the cast’s heroic on-screen dramas are real historical documents of actual galactic adventures, the band of aliens turn to the celebrities for help in their quest to overcome the oppressive leader in their solar system, General Sarris and his army.
Enrico Colantoni stars as the leader of an alien race who ask the actors for help, believing the show’s adventures were real. Robin Sachs stars in the film as the ever-so-diabolical General Sarris.

The film received extreme praise throughout the years, and is still a pretty well-known film today. Galaxy Quest won the prestigious Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, and the Nebula Award for Best Script.
When the news of a possible sequel was in the works to be streamed on Amazon, Galaxy Quest and Star Trek fans across the world were ecstatic with joy. However, it looks as though that sequel may not occur.
Sam Rockwell, co-star of Galaxy Quest recently stated in a The Nerdist podcast the reasons as to why the sequel has not occurred:
They were going to do a sequel on Amazon and we were ready to sign up for, and you know, Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn’t available, he has a show, and everybody’s show was all weird. We were going to [do] this sequel on Amazon. It was going to shoot like, right now.
As sad as I am that I won’t get to see the adventure continue, it really would not be the same without Alan Rickman and Tim Allen.
