Throwback Thursday: 'Dawson's Creek' Episode "Pilot" (1998)
The WB

Can you believe that Dawson’s Creek, which debuted January 20, 1998, turned 20 years this past weekend? Neither can we! For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we got a bit nostalgic and decided to go back to the very first episode where it all began. The hit teen drama aired on The WB network and ran for six seasons through 2003.

Over the years, their story went in many directions, and we watched these verbose teens with fantastic vocabulary grow into adults. The show captivated audiences with stories about this group of individuals coming of age, their families, friendship, and love which took place in a small fictional town of Capeside, Massesshussets.

The title character, Dawson Leery, is best friends with Josephine “Joey” Potter and Pacey Witter. The three are about to embark on the next phase of their lives at high school. However, an unexpected newcomer from New York, Jennifer “Jen” Lindley, unknowingly throws a wrench into a budding (albeit romantically awkward) relationship between Joey and Dawson when she moves next door to Dawson. Meanwhile Pacey plays with fire when he begins a torrid affair with his English teacher.

Wildly popular with the adolescent demographic, the show brought us one of the most well-known love triangles of Dawson, Joey, and Pacey. It also introduced viewers to some of today’s most popular actors such as Katie Holmes (Joey), Joshua Jackson (Pacey), Michelle Williams (Jen), and James Van Der Beek (Dawson).
