Thor Love and Thunder: James Gunn Reveals his Level of Input in the Movie

Given the many crossovers, cameos, and linkages that define the Marvel Cinematic Universe throughout the last 14 years, no filmmaker or writer has complete creative control over any part of it. Guardians of the Galaxy architect James Gunn, on the other hand, has invested a lot of time and effort in constructing his area of the mythology.

The lonely crew of misfit cosmic oddballs were essential players in the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame twin-bill, with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely stating that they sought Gunn’s advice and guidance while crafting dialogue for Star-Lord and his pals.

Taika Waititi, the director of Thor: Love and Thunder, did much the same thing with Gunn admitting to fans on Twitter that he gave suggestions for some minor changes to be made to the script.

From a directorial and authorial standpoint, Guardians of the Galaxy movies have been defined by Gunn’s distinctive style, so it makes sense for Waititi to see if their words are in line with the offbeat, irreverent tone of Vol. 1 and 2.

It goes without saying that Taika Waititi knows his way around an offbeat comedy, which is no doubt one of the reasons why Gunn has stated that his demands were modest. The Guardians blend in perfectly with the comedic tone set by Ragnarok, which will be elevated even more when Love and Thunder lands this summer.
