With Star Wars: The Last Jedi just days from its big theater debut, the franchise is the talk of pop culture. From interviews with various cast members to fans anticipating the film’s premiere – we can’t get enough. The film is going to be emotionally heavy, for many reasons, but a story told on Twitter just two days ago already pulled at our heartstrings.
Ed Solomon posted a series of tweets titled ‘Why I will love Mark Hamill Forever’ and if you weren’t sure he was an incredibly kind guy before, you’re sure to understand now.
Not knowing Mark, I called his agent and explained that this lovely boy watched Star Wars every day and wanted to meet NOT Mark Hammill, but, rather, the actual CHARACTER that he played (the boy's own mental state had devolved past the point of being able to grok that… 2/4

He not only met with the boy, but spent hours answering question after question (sometimes the same ones repeatedly), AS "Luke." Even posting this now makes me teary. He was compassionate, kind, and patient. And it literally meant the world to this kid and his family. 4/4

Needless to say, we teared up just reading the story. As Ed said, not only did he say yes immediately after being asked – he went above and beyond expectations. Hamill spent hours with the boy and allowed him to ask all of his questions and being the Luke Skywalker that he needed in that moment. While we’re sure Hamill knows how important that is, it’s hard to grasp what that meant to the boy and his family.
Hamill responded to the tweets saying he feels like it’s his duty to give back because he’s been so lucky.
There's no sweeter sound than a child laughing-I've been so lucky-feel it's my duty 2 give back in any way I can-Much prefer visits 2 hospitals than talk-shows
Heartbreaking but inspirational-makes my career seem trivial in comparison-Wish I could do more❤️ https://t.co/nXXutNfYsa— Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) December 5, 2017
Not only that, he said that he much prefers to visit hospitals than talk shows.
It takes a special kind of light to give so freely of yourself, and Hamill has got it.
‘…but I knew him’
