Cruella is another film in a long line of live-action adaptations of animated classic Disney films. They’ve remade a large number of these films at this point and a lot of them have actually been really good. It’s hard to recapture the magic of classic Disney animated films, but for a new generation, this might be the best thing. Now it’s come time for a live-action adaptation of The 101 Dalmatians. We all know the beloved film about the cute puppies that were destined to be murdered. Luckily that didn’t happen but it looks like the new film will spend more time focusing on the villain. The film aptly titled Cruella will focus more on the titular villain instead. Now, there’s a Cruella trailer! I’ll put the film’s synopsis down below the trailer.
“Cruella, which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson (Howards End, Sense & Sensibility). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.”
So, it looks like obviously, the film will take certain liberties with the property. In fact, it may not even be a retelling of the animated film, it could be something else entirely. Either way, we’ll find out soon.
