It seems as though FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully still believe that the truth is still out there.

Entertainment Weekly reports that 90s hit television show The X-Files – which aired on Fox network from 1993 to 2002, and enjoyed the success of a six-episode revival last year – is “very close” to getting a green light for an 11th season.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s press tour, Fox President David Madden revealed that, “A lot of conversations are going on – as you can imagine, there conversations are complex.”

Fox expects to “have an announcement shortly,” once the challenging aspect that surrounds the busy schedules of the series leads David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson is lined up ready for their return to the paranormal.

The news of a renewal doesn’t come to a great shock for fans of the show – last February, series creator Chris Carter hinted that more episodes would follow last seasons unexpected cliff-hanger. As the 10th season aired, Carter said due to the impressive ratings, Fox was happy with the progression of the show and would “ask for more.” The return of the cult-classic received one of Fox networks biggest ratings of the year, and this sentiment was repeated internationally.

The executive noted that The X-Files is getting ready to return in 2018.
