The World Isn’t Waiting For “Deadpool 3” To Destroy “Morbius”
Because most movies that rely on popular culture allusions face a challenging balancing act to not date themselves too quickly, there are plenty of trends that are currently popular this week that will be obsolete by the end of the month. We’re confident, based on Morbius’ (and completely ironic) enduring popularity, that Deadpool 3 will be able to take the Sony blockbuster to task.
The “Morbin’ Time” phenomenon hasn’t escaped the notice of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who say they weren’t aware of it while working on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first R-rated film. Ryan Reynolds is a fan and producer, so it’s not out of the question.
As soon as the news circulated that Morbius had joined the screenwriting process for Deadpool 3, fans of both Marvel’s Morbius and Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth were crossing their fingers.
Of course, one major difficulty is that Deadpool 3 isn’t expected to film until next year. Unless Sony decides bombing twice in theaters is still sufficient grounds for a sequel, Morbius’ day in the sun will have passed by 2024, assuming they release the movie in that year.
However, given that we’ve come to expect the unexpected from Wade Wilson, nothing is off the table.
