Some Walking Dead fans are still hoping that longtime friends Carol and Daryl will become more than friends.
The shippers are real, and understandably so. These two characters have known each other from the beginning of the apocalypse, and they’re both really good at kicking zombie butt.
Star Melissa McBride recently said something to ET that set off some alerts when asked about the possible future of them as a couple.
“You never know, you know? I love how they have each other’s back. I love their relationship. Whatever it is, I love their relationship,” she said. “The fans can look forward to more Daryl and Carol scenes.”
This would have to happen in future seasons, because in season nine premiere, it was evident that Carol and Ezekiel’s relationship has solidified. In the second episode of the season, Carol ends up putting on the ring he uses to propose to her. So in apocalyptic terms, the two are married.
“I think a lot of people are, actually,” Norman Reedus added. “I kind of get it everywhere.”
Carol shared a moment with Daryl before accepting Ezekiel’s ring. She told Daryl that he proposed, and they spoke about why she didn’t say yes. Daryl is the opposite of Ezekiel with his big personality, but he wants her to be happy.
McBride described their relationship,
“They’re very different. They have the playing the roles in common, and those little survival tactics in common, but they’re very different. A nice yin-and-yang. I’m kind of excited to see her open herself up to maybe experience a little romance.”
Showrunner Angela Kang added her piece as well during an interview with Rotten Tomatoes.
“What I’ll say is, these are characters who have come a long way, who have had long stories. People who are lamenting a certain pairing or whatever, keep in mind that we’re telling a long, serialized arc and stories develop and stories change and things move along. What we know is that Carol and Daryl, whether romantic or not, they are soulmates. They needed to find each other in this apocalypse, and they’re both stronger for having each other.”
Do you like that Carol has found happiness with King Ezekiel? Do you think that in seasons to come, Carol and Daryl could become something more?
You can keep up with the budding Walking Dead love every Sunday night at 9 PM ET on AMC!
