Heading into the ninth season of The Walking Dead, there’s a lot of fear and uncertainty as it relates to some of our favorite characters. We already know that this season will be filled with several goodbyes that we’re not quite ready to say, but for at least one fan-favorite character, there’s love and happiness in their future.
The Kingdom’s beloved right-hand man, Jerry, has a new love interest which we’ve learned from the explosive season nine trailer. In the trailer, we see Jerry and Nabila share in a quick smooch and we couldn’t be happier for the two. As it turns out, Cooper Andrews (who plays Jerry on the show) is pretty excited for fans to see the new relationship come alive in the upcoming season.
Speaking recently with Comicbook.com, Andrews said that this was actually a first for him and that we can look forward to a happier world in the upcoming ninth season. Of Jerry and Nabila’s new relationship, he said:
[row]”It’s fun. It’s brand new for me. This is my first on-camera kiss, or on-stage kiss, or whatever that is. So everyone’s like, ‘Ah-ooh!’ But we had so much fun and it’s one of those relationships where it’s not built off of this fear of like, ‘Oh! You’re the last person. I’m the last person. Let’s get together.'”[/row]
It sounds like Jerry and Nabila (played by Nadine Marissa) truly adore each other, and according to Andrews, that happier feeling is a theme for his character, at least for part of the season. He continues:
[row]”This is just because the world got happier and the people in it are able to kind of see past the next day and think a little bit in longer terms, but it’s fun. You get to see Jerry care for something and you see that there’s more to him than just being – which I love being – [Ezekiel’s] shadow, his hand that talks a lot. It’s nice to see that the world is getting bigger for that kind of relationship for him.”[/row]
We really can’t wait to see the Jerry and Nabila relationship unfold! In addition to Jerry’s new-found relationship, The Walking Dead season nine will bring about several massive changes. Series star Andrew Lincoln (who plays Rick Grimes) recently confirmed his speculated exit from the series was, in fact, happening. Additionally, Lauren Cohan’s future on series is in question as she has begun working on her new show, ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier. In a recent interview, Cohan (who plays Maggie Rhee) commented that Maggie’s story is still open-ended. She said, “I’m so grateful that this has been my stomping ground for so long, and my family here is never gone. Maggie’s story is open-ended.” Both Cohan and Lincoln are said to appear in just six episodes in the upcoming season, but fans will have to wait and see what will become of their favorite characters.
The Walking Dead will return to AMC with new episodes starting on October 7th.
