‘The Walking Dead’: Will we head to the Commonwealth?

As season 9 of The Walking Dead promises a time jump as well as the Whisperer War, but could we see the beginning of the Commonwealth?
The Commonwealth is one of the bigger storylines in the comic book series and new showrunner Angela Kang has confirmed that the name-dropping of the Commonwealth on the spinning windmill and the road sign for Toledo are deliberate Easter eggs. She has also confirmed that our survivors won’t be trekking to Ohio just yet.
“Obviously the Commonwealth does mean things to people; we’re starting to seed in some future stories. The timing of those stories may not be in the immediate future, but there will be things this season that are groundwork being laid for finding out more about the world,” Kang said.
The Commonwealth is located in Toledo, Ohio and houses 50,000 survivors.
“One of the things I know fans have been interested by is this helicopter, and so we will learn a little bit more about that mystery and how it might connect to other people or other places,” Kang teased.
It is possible that the helicopter is linked to the Commonwealth and could also be tied to the inevitable exits of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) or Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan).
Fans have also speculated that Jayne Atkinson’s Georgie, who was introduced in season 8, could be the TV version of Pamela Milton, the Commonwealth’s leader. This is mostly because of the strong resemblance between Atkinson and the comic book character.
We’ll have to wait and see how all of this fits together. Is Rick or Maggie’s exit linked to the Commonwealth? Does this new community have access to helicopters and could Georgie be the TV version of Pamela Milton? All we know for now is that the Commonwealth storyline is on its way.
