If you have yet to see the latest episode of ‘The Walking Dead’, a fair bit of spoilers may be resting below.
The Walking Dead certainly does love to tease viewers when it comes to the fate of some of our beloved characters (well, all of them actually). The latest tease follows along the storyline of favorite hero, Rick Grimes.
During last night’s episode, titled, ‘New Best Friends’, Rick was forced to face off with an almost ‘Sauron’-like walker completely covered in knives and spikes.
While Rick put up his best fighting effort to prevent the walker (accoding to Jadis, named ‘Winslow’) from biting and/or killing him, Rick braced its head and tried to push it off. Mind you, it was no clean grab… as a blade protruding from the walker’s helmet made a clean break through Rick’s hand.
Luckily for us, Rick managed to get free and defeat the walker.
Fans of The Walking Dead comics (including myself) began posting all over social media about how, Rick was more than likely probably going to lose his hand.
However, thinking back… it was the Governor who cut off Rick’s hand; but that doesn’t necessarily mean that another ‘big bad’ won’t do it in the show.
In a previous REDDIT Thread, Robert Kirkman talked about his decision to cut off Rick Grimes’ hand in the comics; with the possibility of doing it in the show:
Q: In the Nerdist podcast you said that you wished you hadn’t had (*Spoilers*) Rick’s hand cut off as it was hard to draw him buttoning up a shirt (and a lot more, but this covers it). When it came time to do the same in the show, you didn’t. Was this a financial CGI decision or just a “I get a re-do” decision.
A: To clarify, I think cutting Rick’s hand off when we did was great for the comic. It’s just that in another medium it would be harder to pull off. We cheat in the comic because things aren’t moving. You can’t do that on the show. You’d see Rick not being able to reload his gun and things like that.
The CGI of cutting off Rick’s hand would be expensive, but we did it with Hershel’s leg so if we felt strongly about Rick losing a hand, we’d do it.
What do you think?? Do you think we will finally see Rick lose his hand in the TV series?? Or is this just a mere bump in the road (or scratch on the hand, I should say)??
