‘The Walking Dead’: The Whisperers are “Chilling” Says Greg Nicotero

Walking Dead fans are in for a treat full of terror in the next couple weeks.

Special effects master, producer and director on The Walking Dead, Greg Nicotero spoke with Access recently, where he gave kudos to the casting for the next half of the series and the impending group, The Whisperers. One person in particular stands out, and that’s Alpha, played by Samantha Morton. He says that one look at her is chilling.

“Listen, we have a lot of story to tell. I’ll be really honest, the casting this season has been impeccable. All the new characters — it’s been a joy to work with them. And you take one look at Samantha Morton as Alpha, and it’s chilling. It’s chilling.”

“I left set and the I went back to the makeup effects trailer with my crew, and they were like, ‘I can’t wait to see this season.’ My crew, the people that work on the show, are excited about it.”

He says that the mystery the new group is shrouded in adds to its appeal.

“So all we can really hope is that mystery, that intrigue, the idea that there’s this whole new threat coming — and it’s terrifying. I want to get to it as quickly as we can to let people see how dedicated we are to making the show great and keeping the show great.”

During New York Comic Con, Andrew Lincoln told audiences that she even scared the crew when they saw her doing her scenes.

“Someone was doing an impersonation of a scene that she did, and even that scared me. I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s really scary.’”

Alpha also is joined by Beta (Ryan Hurst) and her daughter Lydia (Cassady McClincy). Beta viciously protects the two, and he hides behind a walker skin mask.

The Whisperers arrive this Sunday, post Rick’s exit last weekend. Expect to jump 6 years after that incident this week.

Who Are You Now? better introduces the group we saw at the end of the last episode, including Magna (Nadia Hilkes), Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura), Connie (Lauren Ridloff), Kelly (Angel Theory), and Luke (Dan Fogler).

Are you ready to see these new and exciting developments?

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 PM ET on AMC.
