The Walking Dead is heading to Disney+ in the U.K. The entire series, all ten current seasons, are moving there on account of FOX shutting down in the U.K. With Disney closing the FOX channel in the U.K. The Walking Dead needed a new home, so Disney+ was the logical choice. Rick Grimes alongside Mickey Mouse!?
The Walking Dead has aired on the FOX channel in the U.K since 2012. All 153 episodes will be moving to Disney+ Star on July 2nd. The eleventh and final season will premiere in the U.S on AMC on August 22. It will release on Disney+ Star on August 23.
“On 30th June the FOX channel in the UK will close. Many titles will become available on Star on Disney+ and will be announced in the near future,” a Disney spokesperson said when announcing the closure of FOX channel. “We appreciate the support of our UK fans and can’t wait to keep sharing the best stories with you. Star on Disney+ serves as the home of movies and television from Disney’s creative studios, including Disney Television Studios (20th Television and ABC Signature), FX Productions and 20th Century Studios.”
Star, which is the international equivalent of Hulu in the United States, currently services Canada, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. It is Disney+’s mature section, for lack of a better term. It has shows like Family Guy and other FOX shows that Disney acquired when they bought FOX.
The final season of the episode is going to have 24 episodes, which is awesome. They’re expected to air in three chunks of eight episodes. They’ve been teasing some really big things for The Walking Dead‘s final season.
“Not totally [dark and gloomy]. There’s some sunshine between the gloom, but the dark stuff gets very, very, very, very dark,” Gimple recently told TWDUniverse on Twitch when previewing the expanded Final Season. “But it’s not unrelentingly dark. There’s some bright spots.”
