‘The Walking Dead’: Rick Grimes Movies Update – Everything We Know

At San Diego Comic-Con, fans were treated to the teaser for The Walking Dead movie starring Rick Grimes aka Andrew Lincoln. In a short, mere-seconds, trailer, we are provided with the image of a helicopter flying towards a skyline. More importantly, we were told that this was the Rick Grimes movie and that it would appear in theaters and not on AMC’s streaming network, as first reported. But when will this film hit theaters?

We now believe that it will either be late 2020, after Season 11 of The Walking Dead airs or more likely in the spring of 2021 Here are four reasons why we think the Rick Grimes Walking Dead movie is filming soon!

Andrew Lincoln Didn’t Direct

Andrew Lincoln did not direct during season ten of The Walking Dead. Normally, this isn’t a big deal, but typically directors are selected and assigned for the episodes for a particular season. The announcement lets us know that something else has come up that will require Andy’s attention. Whatever it is, it has to be pretty important, as Andy made a special trip last year to shadow as a director for an episode, so this departure from directing has to be significant.  Is it preparation for his own film?

(There was a rumor that Andy was supposed to be at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend to be part of the tease, but either couldn’t make it or didn’t want to upstage The Walking Dead series. Therefore, this is the reason all of those images of Andy were pasted in Norman Reedus and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s hotel rooms!)

Pollyanna McIntosh

Pollyanna McIntosh jumped on Instagram to discuss the upcoming films. Pollyanna’s character, Anne, is the only character who we pretty much can confirm is also in the films with Rick Grimes.

The Dream Team Is Available

Finally, it takes a team to film a movie – a real cinematic, movie. Parts of that team are now available! Fear The Walking Dead recently wrapped up its filming season, so now some of The Walking Dead’s key members are available; Scott Gimple, in charge of the over-all world of The Walking Dead, Greg Nicotero, executive producer and in charge of the makeup and effects, and Michael Satrazemis, long time Fear and TWD director, along with several others. This group knows what fans of TWD want and are the perfect ones to give it to them!

Say Hello to The Walking Dead: World Beyond

Recently, the trailer for The Walking Dead: World Beyond, the third series in TWD Universe, arrived.  In the trailer you hear, “Once upon a time, the end of the world, was our beginning,”  a female voice says, as it shows images of a group of younger people navigating the world.

Then, an older female character appears on a helicopter that is similar to the one that took away Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), and we hear, “We are the last light of the world. We are the last hope.”

The symbol connects that world and leads towards where Rick’s location may be.  This will be a step towards the films and provide us with a basis of understanding so we are familiar with where Rick is before we ever get to the films.

Tell us what you think! Are we getting closer to the Rick Grimes The Walking Dead movies?

  1. I’m so ready to see these movies. I understand it takes time to film a movie and everything but 2021 geeze that’s too far away. LOL

  2. I don’t watch walking dead anymore since Rick is gone it just isn’t the same its like mostly all new actors. It would had been still ok if Rick was still on it. I’m surprise the rating hasn’t went down yet….

  3. We cant wait! I have a 2 year old boy who has binged watched this from 1 to last in 3 months it was his favorite thing to watch besides baby shark. I am sad that Rick isnt coming back to the tv series but i wont give up hope either…

  4. Ratings have gone way down. I watched a few episodes after he left, even recently. Too many new people. They totally changed Carol’s personality & looks! Michonne is so boring. Enid & Tara gone?! Not at all The Walking Dead!
