For years the cast and crew, as well as fans, of The Walking Dead have spoken of the unbreakable bond that is The Walking Dead family, or #TWDFamily on social media. Whether it be through connecting with the show’s themes or characters, or the people they’ve met along the way at conventions, for fans, The Walking Dead Dead family is what unites everyone together to celebrate and love a show that has truly impacted their lives for the better.
For the cast and crew, The Walking Dead family has a much more literal meaning. By filming in Georgia, the actors often spend a good deal of time away from their families on set and over the past nine years, they’ve all become their own family. They spend weeknights and weekends together, they go on road trips, they have goodbye parties and welcome parties – they are forever united by this show. So, when one of their characters leaves or is killed off, they don’t get to spend nearly the same amount of time together as they used to, but the love is and always will be there.

This could not ring truer than in a video posted to Instagram by Reedus this past week. The bundle of joy clip shows The Walking Dead cast, including Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, and Danai Gurira at San Diego Comic-Con running into Sonequa Martin-Green, who played Sasha Williams on the show. To say that the cast was excited to see her would be a huge understatement. To quote Reedus’ caption – it was literally like Christmas morning for them as they all rushed around her for hugs. Check it out below and try not to smile!
In between all of the “I love you’s” and “awwws” Danai Gurira tries to make plans for later that night, which absolutely warms our hearts as well. Sonequa Martin-Green played Sasha Williams on the show for nearly 70 episodes from seasons three to seven until her character was killed off in the season 7 finale. Since then she’s been starring on CBS All-Access’ Star Trek: Discovery, which was also being promoted at the convention.
We imagine this is pretty much how everyone is going react whenever they see Andrew Lincoln from now on as well as he has wrapped filming and is officially leaving the show after nine years of playing Rick Grimes. Season nine will also be Lauren Cohan’s final season as well. She has been playing the fierce Maggie Green since season 2.
I truly believe Andrew Lincoln is the best leading man on TV. He has made us all better with his leadership, dedication, heart, and generosity. I couldn’t be thankful enough for the time I’ve gotten to work with him and learn from him. It’s been an honor, sir. #SDCC #TWDFamily pic.twitter.com/r23gfkid7n

Thanks to Walking Dead conventions and other publicity events, the cast is able to see each other and reunite more than others casts on TV, but seeing something like this video just goes to show how truly unique this particular group of actors is and proves how it’s more than just the story that makes The Walking Dead so great, it’s the people who make it.
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
