When The Walking Dead‘s season 8 preview special aired on AMC Sunday night, fans were excited to hear Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lennie James, and Scott Gimple discuss the upcoming season. The ‘all out war’ is just weeks away from its television debut and it’s already becoming a saving grace for some fans as far as the series is concerned.
Season 7 was full of ups and downs, violence and bottle episodes, and content that left fans torn with the direction in which the series was going. However, as season 7 made its way to the finale, and the characters realized they were not just pawns in a game bigger than themselves, most of that audience was drawn back in.
So season 8’s premiere episode obviously had to be a big one, and if that wasn’t enough, it’s also the 100th episode of the series which lays the groundwork for the next 100. The preview special was further proof that the actors and crew members are still just as dedicated to The Walking Dead as they’ve always been. It also premiered a longer look into some footage from season 8 which was incredible.
The video isn’t online yet, but we did sum it up for you if you missed it.
The premiere sneak preview begins with Jesus, Maggie, Rick, and Ezekiel talking about when to start the fight, and Rick says tomorrow. Maggie assures him that she’ll be there, at least for the first part.
Her pregnancy will obviously stop her from fighting as time progresses and King Ezekiel offered up their doctor for Maggie seeing as the Hilltop lost theirs. Jesus says they’ll get their doctor back. Ezekiel smiles and agrees – ‘as soon as the day defeats the night’.
‘Today is the day we reshape this world, so let’s get started.’
King Ezekiel looks ready to fight, and after his hesitation at first about going up against Negan, we’re ready to see the fire lit inside of him. Even if it’s been revealed that he’s not entirely aware of what Negan brings to the table in full capacity yet.
A sweet moment is shared between Rick and Maggie that reminds us what the beginning of the series looked like. While Rick and Maggie are still fighting the same war and still very much part of the same family, they’ve not been living in the same camp, so the moment between them was made even more special.
‘The Hilltop’s lucky to have you.’
‘You showed me how to be someone worth following.’
‘Good, after this, I’m following you.’
In another scene; Carol, Morgan, Daryl, and Tara are seen in the middle of a countdown and once Tara reaches one – nothing happens. Disappointment is evident. However, seconds later Daryl finally sees what they’re waiting for, a herd of walkers, but the scene cuts before we can fully understand why.
We’ll have to wait until October 22nd to find out more about the war and what that herd of zombies is set to accomplish, but it’s well worth it. We are more than ready to see the characters we love find their strength and light once again.
‘…but I knew him’
