Caution: This post contains spoilers from the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead season 9.

In the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead‘s 9th season, we learn a lot more about Henry as he grows up and turns into a teenager. He and Carol have arrived at Hilltop where Henry is going to be an apprentice. Carol drops him off there, just like he’s going off to school.

Unbeknownst to him, there is actually a group of teens who do teen type activities when nobody’s around. Those activities include drinking, and Henry gets in on the fun. He ends up overdoing it.

Speaking with us this week, Matt talks about the compromising situation Henry finds himself in,

First off it was super fun, it was definitely a new situation for Henry. It’s a bit lonelier than he thought it would be at Hilltop. He left everything familiar behind, and he may be a bit homesick. In some ways he’s gone to the apocalyptic college at Hilltop. So when he meets these kids, he just wants be friends, but unfortunately these friends are into some things that get him in trouble right off the bat.

As to why Henry immediately jumped in the pit to put out the fires of fun,

He definitely feels bad for the walker. He doesn’t know how long the tormented walker has been there. He doesn’t care that it’s a walker. He really just wants to put it out of its misery.

There is so much good in Henry, and we hope it sticks for a while.

Matt also spoke with us about training for that scene, because Henry is still very skilled with the stick.

I had a couple lessons with on the stunt coordinators. Just getting familiar with it, and making sure I was good with it, because there’s a time jump and Henry has to be good with the bow now, especially after 6 years. I couldn’t let my little brother show me up. I had a lot of fun with it.

He is probably making his little bro proud!

What do you think is in store for Henry next? Will he remain friends with the bad influences?

The Walking Dead returns in February 2019.
