Lauren Cohan, Maggie Rhee on The Walking Dead, confirmed that she will definitely return for the ninth season of the hit AMC series. The announcement was made Tuesday night at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Earlier this year, it was unclear if Cohan would be returning due to contract negotiations and the actress signing on for the ABC pilot Whiskey Cavalier.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Cohan is currently at CinemaCon to promote her upcoming film Mile 22 and was asked if she would return or not.
She replied:
“Yes, I’m going back! There’s a lot more Maggie story to tell…You know we’re not allowed to tell you anything, but it’s good.” ~ Lauren Cohan
There has been no word as to whether the Whiskey Cavalier pilot will be picked up. If it does, it is not yet known how AMC would work around Cohan’s schedule. Perhaps filming all of Maggie’s scenes early on which would free her towards the end of the filming schedule? Shooting for The Walking Dead is usually done in episodic order from May through to November/December.
The Walking Dead season 9 filming begins next week in Georgia and cast members have already begun traveling back to prepare.
Thank You, AMC! You have made many fans very happy! We will, hopefully, get to see whether Maggie will avenge Glenn’s death, maybe witness the birth of her baby and her intentions to “show” Rick how wrong he was in making the decision to save Negan.
The Walking Dead returns for season 9 in the fall of 2019 on AMC.
