‘The Walking Dead:’ Here’s Why Dwight Didn’t Kill Negan When he Had The Chance

The Walking Dead’s Dwight had many opportunities to kill villain Negan, but he never took them. He explains why.

Dwight actor Austin Amelio attended Walker Stalker New Jersey at the Raritan Center on December 8th and 9th, where he joined Jayson Warner Smith (Gavin) on a panel in front of a sea of fans.

Amelio was asked one of the most popular questions he is asked at events. “Why did Dwight not just kill Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) when he had the chance?”

Austin believes more people had Negan’s back than many people realized.

“I think there’s so many people that had Negan’s back, it was almost like a Stockholm Syndrome sort of deal. I don’t think it would have been smart for me to kill him,”

Dwight was one very loyal to Negan through and through. That changed when Negan burned his face and took Sherry from him. Dwight was then forced to closely ally with his other right hand man, Simon, who eventually planned to overthrow the villain. That didn’t end well for him. Dwight remained smart in the matter, but nearly was caught by Negan.

“And I was so set on what I wanted to do as well, and where I wanted to go, and sort of this plan… so I just think it would have derailed a bunch of things if I just killed him, you know? I probably would have gotten shot somehow. Some crazy motherf— that liked him would have been like, ‘pow.’”

Negan has been locked up for the past 6 years on the show, but after a time jump that has officially changed. Negan finds a chance to escape his cell in the mid-season 8 finale.

. Amelio was asked several times about where Dwight is, after Daryl (Norman Reedus) drops him off in the woods and tells him to go look for his wife Sherry, after Dwight did multiple things to anger Daryl.

Now that the show has jumped 6 years into the future, Dwight could be anywhere.

“He’s alive. That’s all I can say. He’s alive. He’s alive in the world somewhere.”

How would you want to see Dwight come back to The Walking Dead universe? Do you think he found Sherry?

The Walking Dead will return for the second half of season 9 on February 10th, 2019.
