The Walking Dead: First Photos of Andy and Danai Together as Rick & Michonne Series Begins Pre-Production

After a decade of captivating viewers, The Walking Dead officially concluded on AMC earlier this year. However, that doesn’t mean the end of its enthralling universe. Fear the Walking Dead and Tales of The Walking Dead are just two existing spinoff series and it looks like more will be joining them soon with shows such as “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” featuring Norman Reedus reprising his role as the eponymous character and “The Walking Dead: Dead City” bringing back Lauren Cohan’s Maggie Rhee alongside Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan!

Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will return to our screens in an upcoming limited series, currently without a title. Though the show is yet still in pre-production, we recently received an insider image showing Lily reunited with Andrew alongside TWD’s Chief of Content Officer Scott Gimple; who also serves as executive producer for this spinoff!

The new images were shared by Gurira on her official Instagram, showing the two stars and showrunner smiling together in front of a hotel pool. The caption along with the image reads, “#Richonne spin-off. 2023. Pre-production is in full swing. We’re getting there!” While we still don’t know the name of the show or the exact details of the story, it was announced at SDCC that the series will “wrap up story arcs,” pertaining to the post-apocalyptic couple.

What We Know About The Rick and Michonne Spinoff

At the San Diego Comic-Con 2022 in July, Lincoln, Gurira and Gimple officially announced that pre-production for their upcoming limited series had begun. Now set to begin filming sometime in January next year, this six episode series has been highly anticipated since then!

At Comic-Con, Universal Pictures revealed that the feature-length movie was no longer on the table and had been replaced by an all-new series. October brought even more exciting news when Gurira was credited as a creator of this spinoff who also took part in writing it; describing her work as an “epic love story.” With anticipation building for its release, fans can only hope that this limited-series will live up to expectations.

“It’s definitely an epic love story. It’s very much rooted in the world we know of, and then and then another world that we don’t know yet,” Gurira told Deadline in an interview in late December 2022. “I think it’s going to be it has all the makings of the things that have always made the Walking Dead really great viewing so, you know, in terms of these characters, and this very particular world and the action that this world insists upon, in order to survive it. And simultaneously, it’s, you know, deeply intimate and really hones in on an intimate story. So yeah, I think it’ll be very satisfying. I hope so.”

Stay tuned for future updates on the upcoming spinoff series. You can check out Gurira’s Instagram post down below:
