The Walking Dead is coming to an end soon. However, AMC will be expanding Robert Kirkman‘s zombie universe with more spin-off shows including the Rick and Michonne series. The drama was originally going to be a film trilogy before being turned into a TV show instead.

When will the Rick and Michonne spin-off air and with how many episodes?

The Rick and Michonne series is set to come out in 2023, but there is no confirmed date yet. The premiere for the series is likely to be announced closer to the time.

According to the show’s timeline, The Walking Dead will conclude in November 2022. This indicates that the Rick and Michonne spin-off could begin in February or March 2023, as a result of the conclusion of the original program.

However, the show’s upcoming season will have six episodes in order to accommodate the recently aired conclusion of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic book series.

The series will be broadcast on AMC, which typically airs television programs every week. Episodes are expected to air on a weekly basis rather than being released in batches, similar to The Walking Dead‘s release schedule.

According to IGN, there may be additional episodes in the future, following the initial six installments.

Who are the stars of Rick and Michonne?

Andrew Lincoln will once again portray Rick Grimes, and Danai Gurira will return as Michonne Hawthorne.

Lincoln and Gurira departed The Walking Dead separately in the show. He was helicoptered out of danger in the series’ final episode, leaving him to depart back for his group.

When Michonne found signs that Rick could still be alive, Gurira left the show to look for him. The show is likely to have new cast members as Rick and Michonne go on new adventures during the zombie apocalypse.

Some of the stars from The Walking Dead might make small appearances in your show. This includes Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon and Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier. Reedus also has his own spin-off show.

The head honcho from AMC, Scott Gimple, said that there will be some people from the past on the show, as well as some new characters that we hope to like.

What will happen in the Rick and Michonne spin-off?

So far, very little has been revealed about the Rick and Michonne series with Gimple remaining tight-lipped.

Nonetheless, it was confirmed on the SDCC panel the show would “continue the journey and love story” between Rick and Michonne.

After the Rick spin-off was first confirmed in 2018, a statement from Gimple read: “This is the end of Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead, but this is not the end of Rick Grimes’ story.

“We are going to continue telling Rick Grimes’ story in a series of AMC Original films. There’s a lot of story to tell.”

Gimple also teased the spin-off would be a “big evolution of what we’ve doing on the show, with the scope and scale of features”.

He said there would be “yet-unseen worlds of The Walking Dead” as the world continues to broaden its horizons.

The executive producer added: “We want to break new ground with different, distinct stories, all part of the same world that’s captured our imagination for nearly a decade of the Dead.”

While AMC executive David Madden said: “For many years, fans have talked about things in the apocalypse they want to see and now we have an opportunity to explore those stories, beginning with the character who started it all, Rick Grimes.”
