‘The Walking Dead’ Begins Production on Season 9

Great news, Walking Dead fans! Filming for the upcoming ninth season of The Walking Dead has officially begun!

Over the past several days, photos of the cast and crew returning to Georgia have been appearing on the internets, however, on Monday, the official social media accounts for The Walking Dead snapped the proverbial (and literal) marker declaring the start to filming.

In the below photo, we can already see some details about the upcoming ninth season. Clearly written on the scene marker, we can see that the incomparable Greg Nicotero will be directing the season nine premiere. We can also see what looks like a new location in the background (or a newly renovated location – Hilltop, possibly?) with a water tower and all wooden housing shown.

Season nine will be the first with new showrunner Angela Kang at the helm of the series replacing Scott M. Gimple. Additional details surrounding season nine have yet to be revealed but fans can rest assured knowing that the whole cast including Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Rhee (Greene) in the series, will be returning for the ninth season. Cohan’s return was left in limbo for several weeks while contract negotiations took place. During that time, she landed a leading role in an upcoming pilot for ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier. Just last week during CinemaCon, Cohan revealed that a deal for her return to The Walking Dead had been reached by saying, “there’s a lot more Maggie story to tell.”

The Walking Dead will return to AMC for its ninth season this fall! Are you excited to see what lies ahead for the series in season 9?
